Kerala state energy conservation award

BIOTECH has won the Kerala State Energy Conservation award 2010 for best performance. The awards were presented at a ceremony held at the government guest house in Thiruvananthapuram by the Water Resource Minister N. K. Premachandran. BIOTECH Director
Dr. A. Sajidas received the award from the Minister for the out standing achievements and contributions in the field of Energy Conservation and Energy management. The award was finalized on the basis of quantitative achievements and also taking into account various other factors such as innovative techniques and technologies adopted, commitment of the management, environment friendliness, and organizational set-up to promote energy conservation in the unit. Installation of large number of biogas plants , waste treatment of energy plants, and publicity through different media  are some of the energy conservation activities that helped BIOTECH to achieve the award. BIOTECH has to its credit many awards in recognition of its Energy Conservation programmes.  BIOTECH had installed 22,000 domestic waste treatment plants, 230 Institutional plants including electricity generation plants in 52 Panchayats.

BIOTECH has developed different models of waste treatment plants to generate cooking gas and also electricity from waste, through incessant research and development by the application of various scientific technologies. BIOTECH has been recognized and is being assisted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. The installation of household bio waste treatment plants help to save as much as 50 – 60% LPG in a month. The household plant produces biogas for cooking purposes for 2 hours per day.
